Samsung Galaxy Buds Live Headphones Review

The Buds Live are immediately recognizable. Their smooth, reflective shell resembles a small bean or polished stone. Unlike stem-style earbuds, almost the entire earbud sits inside the contours of the outer ear.

Comfort is one of the strongest reasons to consider the Galaxy Buds Live. There is no deep silicone nozzle pushing into the ear canal. Instead, the body rests against the outer ear with small wingtips helping maintain position.

Ear anatomy varies, however, so some listeners may need time to learn the correct angle. When inserted too deeply or rotated incorrectly, the acoustic response and comfort can both change.

Capacitive touch surfaces provide playback and call control. Long-press actions can be customized for selected functions through Samsung’s companion software.

Touch controls keep the outside of each earbud clean and minimalist, though accidental touches can occur while adjusting their position.

Portability is excellent. Both earbuds are tiny, and the rounded charging case is compact enough for most pockets. There is no headband, cable or external transmitter to pack.

The compact square case protects the earbuds and provides additional battery capacity. USB charging is available, and the case supports Qi-certified wireless charging.

Despite their lightweight construction, the Buds Live feel well assembled. The shells have a premium glossy exterior and fit neatly into the matching charging case.

Their IPX2 rating provides only basic protection from vertically dripping water, so these should not be treated like heavily weatherproof sports earbuds.

Once positioned correctly, the curved body sits securely against the ear and works surprisingly well during walking or moderate exercise. Stability depends on individual ear shape, so fit can vary more than with some silicone-tip models.

The overall tuning leans toward an easy-listening, consumer-friendly presentation. Low frequencies have enough emphasis to make kick drums and bass instruments satisfying without completely overwhelming voices.

Bass is surprisingly substantial for an earbud that does not completely seal the ear canal. Correct positioning is important: rotating the earbuds slightly can materially change perceived low-frequency output.

Voices, acoustic instruments and spoken content generally remain easy to follow. This makes the Buds Live particularly pleasant for podcasts, YouTube, audiobooks and vocal-heavy music.

Higher frequencies provide reasonable detail, although the open fit and variations in ear placement can make the upper range sound slightly different from one listener to another.

Because the Buds Live do not create as strong a physical seal as conventional in-ear headphones, music can feel less trapped inside the head. This open sensation is one of the design’s more appealing characteristics.

Noise isolation is the Galaxy Buds Live’s most unusual characteristic. Samsung includes active noise cancellation, but the earbuds themselves intentionally do not seal the ear canal.

ANC is therefore most useful against portions of persistent, low-frequency environmental noise. Human speech, keyboard clicks and many higher-frequency sounds remain audible.

That is not necessarily a disadvantage. If you walk outdoors, work around other people or want to hear announcements, the added awareness can be desirable.

The semi-open fit means more acoustic energy can escape than with well-sealed in-ear headphones. At moderate listening levels this is unlikely to be a major problem, but very high volume may become audible to someone sitting nearby.

Voice reproduction is perfectly usable for ordinary calls, online meetings and quick voice messages. It does not, however, provide the rich and natural recording quality of a dedicated microphone.

Quiet rooms present few problems, while louder streets, traffic or groups of nearby speakers can make it more difficult for the microphone system to keep your voice completely separated.

A particularly useful feature is quick charging. Samsung specifies approximately one hour of playback from a short five-minute charge under its stated test conditions.

Samsung’s companion software provides access to the Buds Live’s key settings. Depending on device and software version, users can manage noise cancellation, select sound presets, adjust touch-and-hold behavior and review earbud status.

The preset-based equalizer is easy to use, though audio enthusiasts who want precise control over individual frequency bands may find it less flexible than a full EQ.

Integration is particularly straightforward within the Samsung Galaxy ecosystem, but ordinary Bluetooth support also allows the Buds Live to work with many other compatible phones, tablets and computers.
